Meet Our Heart Transplant Experts

The Christ Hospital Heart Transplant Center brings together a team of expert specialists who provide vital transplant care for Greater Cincinnati and beyond. Our program is led by two exceptional, highly experienced cardiac transplant specialists.

Dr. Geetha Bhat and Dr. Robert Dowling have more than 50 years combined experience in heart transplant and have collaborated on thousands of successful cases. They are nationally respected leaders known for exceptional outcomes, leading-edge research, and patient-centered care.

Geetha Bhat, MD

Medical Director

Geetha Bhat, PhD, MD, FACC, FAST, FHFSA, is an expert in mechanical cardiac support with vast heart transplantation experience, having established several nationally recognized and highly successful heart transplant programs. Most recently, she facilitated all aspects of the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Program at Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute, where she was also a professor of medicine.

Robert Dowling, MD

Surgical Director

Robert D. Dowling, PhD, MD, specializes in cardiac transplantation and mechanical cardiac support with a successful track record of over 6,000 open-heart operations. A pioneering innovator, Dr. Dowling's interests extend to mechanical and biomechanical designs. He has been a central figure for innovation and development of these technologies and continues to research cardiac assist devices for severe heart failure. Dr. Dowling is the Chris and Trey Heekin Family Endowed Chair for Cardiac Transplantation.
